biography

I thought it was about time this biography section was updated, but I'm sure most people don't read this kind of thing, so I'm going to keep it short and hopefully to the point.

My name is Paul Stuart Kemp and I write horror stories. I've been writing since about 1994-ish although my first proper novella 'Natura - City of the Dead' wasn't published until 1996. I've written and self-published several full length novels since that, plus one collection of twenty four short stories that had been penned over the seven year period up to 2003.

The two symbols to the right indicate that I am an Aries in the Zodiac, and a water rat in the Chinese calendar. The rat is the image that I was going to have tattooed somewhere about my person, but as it was pointed out that it looked more like a mouse, I chose not to.

This official website went live in the summer of 2000, and it is updated regularly by myself (time permitting), but please don't hold me to that!

As an English writer, I've tried to resist the typical mainstream American influence, setting my tales in the hearts of major British cities such as London and Liverpool.

My favourite author is Clive Barker, and he is the reason I started writing in the first place. I have recently gotten into Stephen King in a big way, but the crazy thing is that I love Clive's novels but dislike his short stories, whereas I can't get into Steve's novels, but his short stories just blow me away.

I attended my first convention at the SFX Event in Blackpool in 2002, sold and signed a lot of books over the three days and met some wonderful people. Since then, I have been to a couple of other conventions that have allowed me to meet some more good folk along the way. I haven't attended any for a while, but I do hope to do some more in the future.

There's a list below of my favourite cd's and books which might give a hint to the kind of stuff that enlightens my life, but a brief summary might include things like our daughter Romy, golf, surfing, oil painting, and eating out as much as possible.
